Shintarō Katsu
Shintarō Katsu, originally named Toshio Okumura, was born on November 29, 1931, and passed away on June 21, 1997. Renowned by the nickname Katsu-shin, he was a multifaceted talent in the Japanese entertainment industry, excelling as an actor, singer, producer, and director. Katsu hailed from a prestigious artistic lineage; he was the son of kabuki artist Katsutoji Kineya, celebrated for his mastery of nagauta and shamisen. His creative legacy continued through his family, as he was the younger brother of actor Tomisaburo Wakayama and the father of actor Ryutaro Gan.
In 1962, Katsu married actress Tamao Nakamura, further intertwining his life with the performing arts. Throughout his career, Katsu captivated audiences with his compelling performances and contributed significantly to the film and television landscape in Japan. His work left an indelible mark, influencing future generations of actors and filmmakers. Katsu's contributions to the arts continue to be celebrated, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in Japanese cultural history.
