Jacob Vargas, born on August 18, 1971, is a distinguished Mexican-American actor whose career spans over three decades. His journey into acting began unexpectedly when he was spotted breakdancing at the age of 12. His first significant television appearance was as a breakdancer on the acclaimed series *Diff'rent Strokes* in 1978.

Vargas made his film debut in the TV movie *The Children of Times Square* (1986) and soon after appeared in a variety of films such as *Last Resort* (1986), *Ernest Goes to Camp* (1987), *The Principal* (1987), and *Little Nikita* (1988). His performances in *Mi Vida Loca* (1993) and *My Family* (1995) earned him the inaugural ALMA Award for Emerging Artist of the Year.

His impressive filmography includes notable roles in *Crimson Tide* (1995), *Get Shorty* (1995), and *Selena* (1997). Vargas portrayed the character Joker in the cult classic *Next Friday* (2000) and played a Tijuana cop in Steven Soderbergh's Oscar-winning film *Traffic* (2000), which brought him both a Screen Actors Guild Award and another ALMA Award.

In addition to acting, Vargas has ventured into production and directing, notably executive producing and starring in *Road Dogz* (2002), and writing and directing *EDNY* (2003).
