James Olson
James Olson (October 8, 1930 – April 17, 2022) was a distinguished American actor known for his diverse contributions to stage and screen. Olson served as a military policeman in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, after which he began honing his craft in the theater scene of Chicago. He made his film debut in 1956 with The Sharkfighters, marking the start of a prolific career.
Olson's Broadway repertoire is impressive, featuring significant roles in productions such as Of Love Remembered (1967), Slapstick Tragedy (1966), and The Three Sisters (1964). His early works also include J.B. (1958) and The Sin of Pat Muldoon (1957), showcasing his versatility and talent. One of his notable film performances was alongside Joanne Woodward in the acclaimed 1968 film Rachel, Rachel, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.
Throughout his career, which spanned from the mid-1950s until his retirement in 1990, Olson made numerous appearances on television. He portrayed baseball legend Mickey Mantle in The Life of Mickey Mantle and appeared in a wide array of popular shows, including Ironside, Murder, She Wrote, and Hawaii Five-O.
