Micheline Presle, born Micheline Nicole Julia Émilienne Chassagne on August 22, 1922, in Paris, was a distinguished French actress whose career spanned over seven decades. Known occasionally as Micheline Prelle, she emerged as a prominent figure in French and English cinema, appearing in more than 50 films from the late 1930s onwards.

Presle's passion for acting blossomed in her youth, leading her to take classes in her teens. She made her cinematic debut at just 15 in the 1937 film La Fessée. Her talent was quickly recognized, earning her the Prix Suzanne Bianchetti in 1938 as the most promising young actress in French film. Her notable performances in films like Devil in the Flesh attracted attention from Hollywood, and in 1950, she signed with 20th Century Fox, where her surname was altered first to Prell, then to Prelle due to branding conflicts.

In Hollywood, she starred alongside notable actors such as John Garfield in Under My Skin and Tyrone Power in American Guerrilla in the Philippines. Presle later married American actor William Marshall, with whom she had a daughter, Tonie. After their divorce in 1954, she returned to France and continued to shine in French cinema, making a memorable appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1957.

Her versatility was showcased in the bilingual film I Want to Go Home, which earned her a César Award nomination in 1989. A progressive voice, she publicly supported women's rights by signing the Manifesto of the 343 in 1971. Micheline Presle passed away on February 21, 2024, at the age of 101, at the Maison des Artistes in Nogent-sur-Marne, leaving behind a rich legacy in the film industry.
