Plot

Joey Wellman, a once-prominent American cartoonist, travels to France with his partner Lena for a Paris exhibition showcasing his comic strip work. He hopes to mend his strained relationship with his daughter, Elsie, who has been living in Paris for two years, distancing herself from her American roots. Elsie's obsession with French literature leads her to seek an introduction to the esteemed professor Christian Gauthier, a Flaubert specialist with a love for comics. Their reunion spirals into tension, but a weekend at Gauthier's mother Isabelle's country home prompts everyone to reflect on their connections and pasts during a whimsical comic-themed party.
