She embarked on her journey to New York City in the fall of 2004 to pursue a master's degree in educational theatre at New York University. While she initially intended to stay in the U.S. for her studies, a visit to Mumbai in February 2008 inspired her to move back permanently after finalizing several projects in New York. By May 2008, she had settled in Mumbai, ready to dive into the Indian film industry.
Shome is well-known for her diverse roles in both mainstream and independent cinema. She gained widespread acclaim for her performance in the critically acclaimed film "The Namesake" (2006), directed by Mira Nair, where she showcased her remarkable talent alongside a stellar cast.
