Born on July 23, 1944, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Pepe was raised in a family with diverse cultural influences—his father served as a naval interpreter while his mother was a hairdresser. His passion for acting ignited at an early age, leading him to Hollywood in 1969 to chase his dreams. He made his film debut in the exploitation flick The Student Nurses (1970) and quickly transitioned to more prominent roles, thanks to producer Hal B. Wallis, who recognized his talent in the coming-of-age drama Tim Belcher.
In addition to his acting career, Pepe is a keen painter and motivational speaker, often sharing his journey with students at colleges and universities. His artwork, which resonates with his Mexican heritage, garnered critical acclaim and was highlighted in the 2015 short documentary, "Life Is Art."
