James Christopher Read, born on July 31, 1953, in Buffalo, New York, is a distinguished American actor renowned for his diverse roles across film and television. He embarked on his acting journey while studying at the University of Oregon, where he earned his degree in 1976. Following his graduation, Read honed his craft in New York, performing in various off-Broadway productions and regional theaters, including a notable stint at The Denver Center Theatre Company, where he secured several leading roles over three seasons.

Read gained widespread recognition for portraying George Hazard in the acclaimed North and South miniseries trilogy, which aired in 1985, 1986, and 1994, based on John Jakes' popular novels. He also co-starred in the beloved film Beaches, showcasing his versatility as an actor. His television career further includes a recurring role as Victor Bennett on the WB series Charmed and a regular part in the first season of Remington Steele. More recently, he has portrayed Ken Davis in the ABC family drama Wildfire.
