Marguerite Churchill (December 26, 1910 – January 9, 2000) was a prominent American actress whose career in film spanned over two decades, from 1929 to 1952, during which she featured in more than 25 films. She gained recognition as the first leading lady of legendary actor John Wayne, notably starring alongside him in the landmark film *The Big Trail* (1930), which was one of the earliest widescreen movies and marked Wayne's first significant role.

Born into a theatrical family, Churchill was the daughter of a producer who owned a chain of theaters, though her father passed away when she was just ten. She honed her craft at New York City's Professional Children's School and the Theatre Guild Dramatic School. Her talent shone through early in her career; she made her Broadway debut at the tender age of sixteen, where she quickly garnered critical acclaim.

Her filmography includes collaborations with notable figures of the time, such as Spencer Tracy and George Raft in *Quick Millions* (1931), Will Rogers in *Ambassador Bill* (1931), and Boris Karloff in *The Walking Dead* (1936). Churchill's versatility allowed her to navigate various genres, and she left a lasting legacy in early American cinema.

After her passing in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, at the age of 89, Marguerite Churchill was survived by her daughter, Orin, fondly remembered for her contributions to the film industry.
