Kenneth Welsh, CM (March 30, 1942 – May 5, 2022), was a distinguished Canadian actor renowned for his work in film and television, often credited as Ken Welsh. He gained significant recognition among Twin Peaks enthusiasts for his complex portrayal of the antagonist Windom Earle. More recently, he showcased his talent as Katharine Hepburn's father, played by Cate Blanchett, in Martin Scorsese's acclaimed film, The Aviator.

In 1984, Welsh earned a Genie Award nomination for Best Actor for his role as Reno Colt in "Reno and the Doc," a film he also contributed to as a creative force under the direction of Charles Dennis. His directorial skills were further displayed in 1997 when he helmed Dennis's play "SoHo Duo" at the West Bank Theatre in New York City.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Welsh's early life was shaped by his father's career with the Canadian National Railway. He pursued his passion for drama in school, later refining his craft at the National Theatre School in Montreal. Welsh began his professional journey with a seven-year stint at the Stratford Festival in Ontario, where he honed his stage presence.

Welsh's impressive repertoire included portrayals of historical figures such as Thomas E. Dewey, Harry S. Truman, and Thomas Edison. He also made notable guest appearances on acclaimed series like Due South and Slings and Arrows. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2003. His role as the U.S. Vice-President in the 2004 film The Day After Tomorrow stirred controversy due to his striking resemblance to then-Vice President Dick Cheney, a choice made intentionally by director Roland Emmerich to critique the environmental policies of the Bush administration.
