John Howard, an accomplished Australian actor, hails from Warrawee, New South Wales. He shares a close bond with his sister, Jan. Howard's educational journey began at Knox Grammar School, but he ultimately decided to leave university, where he was studying medicine and law, to pursue his passion for acting. He graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 1978, alongside fellow actors Penny Cook and Robert Grubb.

From 1981 to 2012, Howard showcased his talent in a variety of leading roles across numerous theatrical productions. His remarkable performance in "The Crucible" and "Mongrels" earned him a Critics Circle Award in 1992. Additionally, he was honored with the Variety Entertainer of the Year award twice, in 1992 and 2006. He received an AFI award nomination for his role in "Joh's Jury" and has been nominated nine times since. In 2001, he won a Silver Logie for his performance in the beloved series "SeaChange."

Between 1992 and 1995, Howard served as the Associate Director of the Sydney Theatre Company and was instrumental in launching the Australian People's Theatre, in collaboration with the company. He is a proud father of a daughter born in 1996 and has a son from a previous marriage. Howard is best known for his roles in "SeaChange" (1998) and "All Saints" (2008). He actively supports charitable causes as an ambassador for Variety (The Children’s Charity) and the Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (AMDF).
