Nestor Paiva
Nestor Paiva (June 30, 1905 - September 9, 1966) was a distinguished American actor of Portuguese heritage, best known for his role as the innkeeper in Walt Disney's live-action series Zorro, broadcast by ABC, as well as in the feature film The Sign of Zorro, which was filmed at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.
His acting career spanned from the 1930s to the 1960s, during which he appeared in numerous films and television programs, including notable series such as Get Smart, Bonanza, I Spy, Family Affair, Gunsmoke, The Beverly Hillbillies, and The Addams Family. In 1943, he took on the role of an Italian Major in the wartime film Chetniks! The Fighting Guerrillas produced by 20th Century Fox. He also portrayed Lucas, the boat captain, in the classic 1954 horror movie The Creature from the Black Lagoon, which starred Ben Chapman as the creature; Paiva would reprise this character in the subsequent film, Revenge of the Creature, released the following year. Over his career, he appeared in over 250 films.
In 1941, Paiva married and became a father to two children, Joseph and Caetana, who both appeared alongside him in the 1956 film Comanche featuring Dana Andrews. Nestor Paiva passed away from cancer in 1966 and is interred at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Cemetery.
