Ferike Boros
Ferike Boros (August 3, 1873 – January 16, 1951) was a Hungarian-born actress who made her mark in both stage and film in the United States.
Originally hailing from Nagyvárad, in what was then Austria-Hungary, Boros began her theatrical career in 1893. In 1903, she relocated to London, and by 1905, she had graced the stage at the prestigious Covent Garden. Her performances in Hungary were notable at the National Court Theatre in Budapest. In 1909, while still associated with the NCT, she embarked on a worldwide journey that included stops in the United States and Canada, aimed at studying the staging of theatrical productions. Despite holding an official letter from the NCT, her attempts to connect with theatrical managers in New York City were met with frequent rejection. One notable response described the overwhelming volume of unsolicited correspondence received by Mr. Belasco, saying he was inundated with "crazy communications from freaks and fakirs and cranks."
After honing her English skills and familiarizing herself with American theatrical practices, Boros enjoyed a successful career on Broadway and with touring companies from 1909 until 1927. Following this period, she transitioned into film, taking on various character roles.
Boros passed away in her residence in Van Nuys, California, on January 16, 1951, at the age of 77.
