Elizabeth Maria Peña (September 23, 1959 – October 14, 2014) was a talented American actress and director, renowned for her contributions to film and television. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Estella Margarita, an arts administrator, and Mario Peña, a Cuban actor and co-founder of the Latin American Theatre Ensemble. Peña graduated from New York's High School of Performing Arts in 1977, where she shared the stage with future stars like Ving Rhames and Esai Morales.

Peña made her film debut in 1979 with "El Super," a poignant comedy about Cuban refugees in Spanish Harlem. She later collaborated with director Leon Ichaso again in "Crossover Dreams," featuring Ruben Blades. Throughout her career, Peña showcased her versatility in films such as "La Bamba," "Down and Out in Beverly Hills," "Lone Star," "Vibes," and "Rush Hour."

In addition to her acting, Peña directed episodes of "Resurrection Blvd." and "The Brothers Garcia." She also lent her voice to the character Mirage in Pixar's "The Incredibles." Notably, she starred in the short-lived sitcom "I Married Dora," where the cast humorously acknowledged their cancellation on-screen.

Her work extended to the critically acclaimed series "Shannon's Deal," produced by John Sayles. Peña's impressive career was cut short when she passed away at the age of 55 on October 14, 2014, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, leaving behind a rich legacy in the entertainment industry.
