William LeMassena

William LeMassena (May 23, 1916 – January 19, 1993) was a distinguished American actor celebrated for his contributions to both stage and screen. Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, he was the son of Margery L. and William Henry LeMassena. He pursued his education at New York University, which laid the groundwork for his flourishing career in the performing arts.

LeMassena made his theatrical debut in 1940 with the Broadway production of *The Taming of the Shrew*, featuring renowned actors Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. He quickly became an integral member of Lunt's unofficial repertory company, sharing the stage with notable figures such as Sydney Greenstreet and Montgomery Clift in productions like *There Shall Be No Night* and *Mexican Mural*.

His versatility extended to television, where he is remembered for his role in the long-running soap opera *As the World Turns* from 1985 to 1992. Additionally, his appearance in the acclaimed film *All That Jazz* in 1979 further showcased his talent.

LeMassena had a profound personal connection with Montgomery Clift, with whom he shared a three-year romantic relationship during the early 1940s. Their bond was characterized by deep emotional intimacy, with LeMassena describing it as the most beautiful experience of his life.

After a fruitful career, William LeMassena passed away from lung cancer in New Suffolk, New York, at the age of 76. His legacy endures through his significant contributions to theater and television.
