Ernesto Gómez Cruz

Ernesto Gómez Cruz (November 8, 1933 - April 6, 2024) was a celebrated Mexican actor renowned for his extensive work in cinema, boasting a remarkable portfolio of over 154 films.

Initially starting his career as a photographer in his hometown of Veracruz, he was inspired to pursue dramatic arts after a friend encouraged him to explore acting. Although he once aspired to be a singer, his shyness prevented him from following that dream, redirecting his talents toward the stage and screen. Throughout his prolific career, Gómez Cruz collaborated with acclaimed directors such as Miguel Littin, Felipe Cazals, Arturo Ripstein, and Luis Estrada. He shared the screen with notable actors including Damián Alcázar, Ignacio López Tarso, and Pedro Armendáriz Jr., showcasing his versatility and depth as a performer.

His contributions to the film industry earned him numerous accolades, with one of the highlights being the Ariel de Oro award at the 56th Ariel Awards in 2014, cementing his status as one of the most decorated actors in Mexico, with multiple Ariel awards and nominations to his name. In 2018, his esteemed career was further recognized when he received an invitation to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, marking him as a distinguished figure in the global film community.
