Mathieu Carrière

Mathieu Carrière, born on August 2, 1950, in Hanover, Germany, is a distinguished German actor. He spent his formative years in Berlin and Lübeck before attending the esteemed Jesuit boarding school, Lycée Saint-François-Xavier, in Vannes, France. Interestingly, this institution had also been attended by Volker Schlöndorff, the director of Carrière's first significant film. In 1969, he relocated to Paris to pursue studies in philosophy while honing his acting skills. Besides acting, Carrière is an accomplished director and writer, and he is an advocate for fathers' rights. He comes from a family of performers; his sister, Mareike Carrière, has also achieved recognition as an actress.

Carrière's career began at an early age when he portrayed young Tonio in Rolf Thiele's 1964 film "Tonio Kröger." He garnered notable attention for his lead role in the 1966 German film "Der junge Törless" (Young Törless). His contributions to the film industry extend beyond acting, as he served as a juror at the 30th Berlin International Film Festival in 1980. Today, Mathieu Carrière is celebrated not only for his versatile talent but also for his passion for important social causes.
