Plot
Set against a backdrop of haunting solitude, an elderly man inhabits a desolate island frequently disturbed by Soviet fighter planes practicing their night maneuvers. His isolation is interrupted when a young mute boy is dispatched from the mainland to provide companionship. As they forge an unlikely bond, both are burdened by their pasts—the boy reminisces about his mother, while the old man reflects on his earlier life as a missionary in Africa.
