Plot

At 82, Rabbi Albert Lewis, Mitch Albom's former mentor, requests the famed sportswriter to deliver his eulogy. Returning to his New Jersey hometown, where Rabbi Lewis has led a congregation for nearly five decades, Albom grapples with feelings of unworthiness due to his own distance from Judaism and his marriage to a non-practicing Christian. Despite his doubts, the rabbi insists Albom is the right choice. Over the next eight years, Albom revisits his roots, attending Sabbath services and witnessing the rabbi's unwavering dedication to his community as his health deteriorates.
