Plot
Set in late 19th-century Shanghai, a city fragmented by foreign concessions, a clandestine society thrives within opulent "flower houses" catering to the city's elite men. These luxurious venues offer a refuge for Chinese dignitaries, who are barred from traditional brothels. Inside, a unique culture unfolds, complete with rituals, customs, and a distinct language. Beyond seeking companionship from the courtesans, patrons indulge in dining, opium smoking, and mahjong games, creating a complex world where the women, referred to as the "flowers of Shanghai," navigate their roles amidst societal constraints.
