Plot
Set in the late 19th century, the film follows Yanko Goorall, a Russian émigré and the sole survivor of a maritime disaster. After washing ashore, he stumbles onto a farm, weak and starving; the locals react with fear, except for compassionate Amy Foster, who extends her kindness. As Yanko recuperates, he forms a deep bond with Dr. James Kennedy, who comes to see him as a son. Amidst this newfound family, a tender romance blossoms between Yanko and Amy, challenging societal norms and expectations.
