Plot
Set against the backdrop of 15th-century Italy, Matheson Lang portrays Cardinal de Medici, who grapples with the burdens of his sacred duties. As a confessor, he must keep the secrets of his parishioners, including one influential figure who has confessed to murder. Complicating matters, the Cardinal's own brother finds himself arrested for this crime. Tension mounts as de Medici navigates the moral and legal ramifications of loyalty and secrecy. This compelling narrative, rooted in Louis N. Parker's play, would later inspire Alfred Hitchcock’s 1953 film, I Confess.
