Set in 1940, shortly after the Spanish Civil War, "The Spirit of the Beehive" follows a young girl on the Castilian plain who becomes deeply affected after watching James Whale's 1931 film Frankenstein. Influenced by her sister's claim that the monster is alive, existing as a spirit in a nearby barn, the girl begins to grapple with her imagination and reality. This haunting blend of innocence and fear leads her to explore themes of life, death, and the lingering shadows of war in her rural surroundings.
