Plot

Big Edie and Little Edie Beale, a mother-daughter duo, reside in their dilapidated East Hampton home alongside six cats. Little Edie, vibrant in her 50s, captivates with her colorful scarves and playful interactions with filmmakers Al and David Maysles. Meanwhile, Big Edie, in her 70s, shares her poetic musings and reflects on her daughter's antics while delivering a heartfelt rendition of "If I Loved You." The documentary unfolds in episodes, featuring visits from friends, a minor house fire, and Little Edie's contemplative swims at the shore. Embracing their eccentricity, they navigate the complexities of life and societal judgment.
