Plot
Russell Gates, a Vietnam veteran portrayed by David Strathairn, finds himself on death row after being convicted of murdering a police officer. His childhood love, Pam O'Brien, played by Sissy Spacek, struggles to accept his guilt and begins corresponding with him, much to the frustration of her husband, Keith. As Pam becomes increasingly consumed by Russell's case, she tirelessly investigates potential avenues for his appeal. Her determination takes a heavy toll on her marriage and family dynamics, leading to a gripping examination of loyalty, love, and the quest for justice amidst personal turmoil.
