Plot

A struggling writer in Manhattan, Jabez Stone, faces constant rejection, living in a dingy apartment and failing to connect romantically. His jealousy peaks when his friend Julius sells a novel for $190,000. In a fit of desperation, he jokingly offers his soul to the devil, but an accidental death caused by his typing machine leads to a fateful encounter. The Devil intervenes, granting Jabez unexpected success and wealth through his poorly received books. As he rises to fame, he neglects his friends. When publisher Daniel Webster presents a way to escape his dark deal, Jabez must decide his true priorities.
