Plot
Young Cecilia arrives in the U.S. without any family, quickly falling under the care of Francisco, a solitary Cuban immigrant estranged from his own loved ones. He runs a makeshift refuge for those crossing the border near the eerie, barren expanse of Lake Los Angeles in the California desert. As Francisco grapples with his isolation and the elusive promise of the American dream, Cecilia roams the parched terrain, her only companions being her vivid imagination and fleeting recollections of maternal affection. Their intertwined journeys reflect the struggles and hopes of those searching for belonging.
