August Bolte, the wealthiest man in a German East African settlement before World War I, is loathed by both locals and European settlers, who refer to him as "Mamba," after a venomous snake. His greed leads him to coerce the stunning daughter of a fallen nobleman into marriage, promising to rescue her father from financial despair. However, upon reaching Africa, she finds herself enamored with a German garrison officer. As the war ignites, Bolte faces conscription and seeks to incite a rebellion among the indigenous people, further complicating the already volatile situation.
