Jean Hersholt
Jean Pierre Hersholt (July 12, 1886 – June 2, 1956) was a celebrated Danish actor who made a significant impact in the United States, particularly in film and radio. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Dr. Christian in the popular radio series that ran for an impressive 17 years. In addition to his radio success, Hersholt is fondly remembered for his portrayal of Shirley Temple's grandfather in the beloved film "Heidi."
When asked about the pronunciation of his name, Hersholt once explained to The Literary Digest, "In English, her'sholt; in Danish, hairs'hult." His extensive career in the entertainment industry includes a remarkable total of 140 films, comprised of 75 silent features and 65 sound films. Beyond acting, he also took on directorial responsibilities, helming four films throughout his career.
