Plot

Schtonk!

Schtonk! is a comedic take on the 1983 incident when Germany's Stern magazine proudly unveiled 60 volumes of supposed Adolf Hitler diaries, only to reveal them as complete forgeries two weeks later. The story follows Fritz Knobel, inspired by real-life forger Konrad Kujau, who makes a living by creating and selling Nazi memorabilia. When Knobel pens and sells a fake volume of Hitler's diaries, he views it as just another gig. However, journalist Hermann Willié catches wind of the diaries and sees their lucrative potential, thrusting Knobel into a chaotic spiral as he struggles to keep up with demand, increasingly embodying the very figure he’s fabricating. This uproarious satire cleverly critiques both the events and the uncomfortable legacy of Germany's past.
