Growing up in the nurturing embrace of her grandparents, mooshum and kookum, in Peguis First Nation, Aberdeen's joyful childhood fades as her neglectful, partying parents pull her away from that sanctuary. Now a struggling adult, she finds herself sleeping on public benches in Winnipeg, fighting for survival. As her life unravels further, she faces heartbreaking losses: her dependable brother Boyd falls seriously ill, leading him to relinquish custody of Aberdeen's children to foster care. To make matters worse, she loses her identification, compounding her difficulties in an already challenging existence.
