Plot

Louis Blore, a hat check attendant, pines for glamorous nightclub performer May Daly. Yet, May's affections lie with a struggling dancer, despite her desire for a wealthy husband. After Louis strikes it rich in the Irish Sweepstakes, he proposes to May, who agrees, albeit without true love. A twist of fate occurs when Louis suffers a head injury, leading him to dream he is King Louis XV on a quest for the notorious Madame Du Barry. Through this whimsical journey, Louis navigates love, ambition, and the complexities of desire.
