Plot
In the late 1940s Los Angeles, Easy Rawlins, a black WWII veteran without a job, struggles to make ends meet. While at a bar, he encounters DeWitt Albright, a shadowy white man who enlists Easy to track down Daphne Monet, a missing white woman believed to be hiding in the city's jazz scene. Desperate for cash to cover his bills, Easy accepts the task, only to realize he’s entangled in a dangerous web of deceit and intrigue that threatens his safety and sanity.
