Plot

Heiress Nancy Crocker Fleming faces a quirky stipulation to inherit her fortune: she must marry an "ordinary American." To sidestep her father’s fears of a gold-digging foreigner, she hires Tony Anthony, a WPA worker, to stage a quick marriage and subsequent divorce. However, chaos ensues when Nancy accidentally drives off with Tony’s beloved dog, prompting him to chase her down, claiming she’s been kidnapped. Their escapade turns into a comedic race across the country to Reno, as both are determined to file for divorce first and secure their independence.
