Plot
Jack Traven, a dedicated LAPD officer in the SWAT team, along with seasoned colleague Harry Temple, successfully prevents a bomber's extortion plot for $3 million. As they close in on the criminal, he escapes and triggers a bomb vest, apparently ending his life. Several weeks later, Jack witnesses a city bus explode and answers a ringing pay phone, where the presumed-dead bomber challenges him. He reveals that another bus is rigged with explosives; if it drops below 50 mph, it will detonate. With LA's notorious traffic as a backdrop, Jack must race against time to save the passengers.
