Plot
Set in 1761 London, St. Mary's of Bethlehem, a notorious asylum, attracts the wealthy who derive entertainment from observing the inmates like zoo animals. Among these visitors is Nell Bowen, whose conscience is stirred by the appalling conditions endured by the unfortunate residents of this grim establishment, infamously dubbed Bedlam. Disturbed by the inhumanity around her, Nell becomes increasingly aware of the moral bankruptcy of those who exploit the suffering of others for amusement. Her awakening sets the stage for a confrontation with the institution's cruel practices.
