Boris Karloff
William Henry Pratt, born on November 23, 1887, and better known as Boris Karloff, was a distinguished actor whose legacy primarily lies in the realm of horror cinema. Originally from England, he made the significant move to Canada in 1909, where he began his journey in the performing arts. Karloff's most iconic performances emerged from his compelling portrayal of Frankenstein's monster in a trilogy of classic films: *Frankenstein* (1931), *Bride of Frankenstein* (1935), and *Son of Frankenstein* (1939). His captivating presence and ability to invoke fear established him as a leading figure in the genre, leading to a period where he was recognized simply as "Karloff" or "Karloff the Uncanny."
In addition to his horror roles, Karloff showcased his versatility with notable performances outside the genre. One of his most beloved roles is that of the Grinch in the animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s *How the Grinch Stole Christmas!* which has become a holiday classic. Throughout his career, Karloff's contributions to film and theater earned him admiration and respect, solidifying his status as a cinematic icon. He passed away on February 2, 1969, but his influence in the world of entertainment continues to resonate.
