Plot
In 60 B.C., a group of Druids, led by the arch-druid Guttuart (Max von Sydow), observe a comet, which they believe heralds the arrival of a new king for Gaul, a land that has long been without one. Guttuart travels to Gergovia, the capital of the Arvenes tribe, to join a gathering of tribal leaders. Meanwhile, young Vercingetorix and his friend Eponia sneak into a cavern where Vercingetorix's father, Celtill, the Arvenes chieftain, is set to declare himself king of all Gauls. As Celtill reveals the ancient crown, an arrow from two Roman spies disguised as Gauls strikes him down.
