Diary of a Sergeant (1945)

Plot

Harold Russell, an American soldier who lost both hands in a training accident, shares his journey of rehabilitation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Initially facing despair alongside fellow amputees, they discover renewed hope through the Army's medical corps, which provides prosthetics and training. Russell learns to adapt to life with his new hooks, mastering tasks he once deemed impossible. Upon his discharge, he receives a warm welcome from Boston College’s president, William J. Murphy, S.J., as he embarks on a new chapter filled with promise and determination.
