In "House of Sand and Fog," Iranian immigrant Behrani purchases a California bungalow with hopes of renovating it for a profit to fund his son's education. Unbeknownst to him, the property rightfully belongs to Kathy, a former drug addict who lost it to an unjust legal ruling. Struggling with homelessness, Kathy seeks to reclaim her home by enlisting a lawyer and forming a bond with a police officer. As both Behrani and Kathy navigate their respective hardships, they face a complex moral quandary, neither having violated the law yet caught in an emotional and ethical battle over the house.
