Plot
In a secluded valley, tradition dictates that villagers who turn 70 must ascend a mountain to meet their end, lest they shame their families. Approaching this age, Orin, at 69, faces her fate this winter. Before she departs, however, she is determined to secure a wife for her eldest son, Tatsuhei. As she navigates the emotional complexities of her impending journey and her son’s future, Orin strives to honor familial bonds while confronting the somber realities of their cultural customs.
