Plot
Set against the backdrop of World War II's harsh winter in 1944-45, the western Netherlands faces dire famine, prompting many to migrate east in search of sustenance. Fourteen-year-old Michiel yearns to join the Dutch resistance, driven by a desire to fight back against the oppressive forces. His eagerness, however, clashes with his father's position as mayor, as he strives to maintain peace and stability in their village. The tension between father and son highlights the struggle between youthful idealism and the harsh realities of wartime leadership.
