Plot

After the death of his wife, Thomas Jefferson takes on the role of U.S. ambassador in France just before the revolution. Struggling to navigate a society marked by a powerful aristocracy and a discontented populace, he experiences both cultural challenges and personal turmoil. In Paris, he falls for the sophisticated artist Maria Cosway. However, his focus shifts when his daughter arrives from Virginia with her captivating slave, Sally Hemings, complicating his emotions and loyalties amidst the backdrop of a changing nation.
