Profiler (1996)
S03E10 Ceremony of Innocence
Episode Overview
A decade after Sam's first profile led to a man being sentenced to death, the inmate is on the verge of execution when a series of murders reminiscent of the original crimes start occurring. Ballistics confirm that the same weapon was used in both cases. Overwhelmed with guilt about her potential role in a grave error, Sam decides to revisit the case. Investigating further, she discovers a bicycle courier who is fatally injured while trying to evade capture. Once he is apprehended, the inmate is exonerated. Although it seems justice has been served, Sam senses something is off. A chess set found in the prisoner's cell reveals that the convicted man was the true killer, while the second murderer was merely a pawn in his scheme. Sam, Bailey, and the team apprehend the now-freed inmate at the hospital, just as he attempts to eliminate the last piece of his intricate plot.
