In Morwellham Quay, Devon, archaeologists Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn, along with historian Ruth Goodman, are on a mission to revive the bustling port's Edwardian era. As November sets in, they aim to embrace period farming techniques to launch a new agricultural project. Alex and Peter intend to cultivate oats for livestock feed and potatoes for profit, but first, they need to plow the fields. While most farmers of the time relied on horses, a traveling salesman arrives with the groundbreaking Ivel tractor, a marvel of Edwardian innovation. Meanwhile, Ruth is busy restoring the farm's pig sty privy, a clever setup that allows for composting both pig and human waste. After welcoming the pigs, she takes time to groom them. Peter begins constructing a trout farm, implementing cutting-edge fish-breeding methods that were groundbreaking for their time.
