Episode Overview
Ulysses S. Grant assumes command of the Northern Armies, leading to swift results but at a steep cost in lives lost. George Hazard, now a brigadier general, is assigned to the field but is captured and sent to Libby Prison in Richmond. Virgilia, under pressure to provide equal care to all soldiers, faces serious trouble when one dies, resulting in a murder charge against her. Desperate, she turns to Congressman Sam Greene for assistance, now willing to meet his demands. Meanwhile, living under an alias, Madeline encounters a charming rogue, while Orry hires a Pinkerton detective to find her. With ongoing tensions between state's rights advocates and President Davis, Bent envisions himself as the next President of the Confederacy and recruits James Hontoon as his running mate.
