Episode Overview
Nicholas and Olga Petrovsky, a couple in their middle years, decide to return to Russia with their 16-year-old son, Alex, who was born in America. After receiving a tennis scholarship offer from Stanford's coach, Ken Daily, Alex has a heated confrontation with Nicholas, resulting in Nicholas striking him. Olga eventually reveals the heartbreaking truth: Nicholas has an incurable illness and wishes to die in his homeland. Understanding the situation, Alex agrees to join his family in Russia. However, at the last moment, Nicholas urges Alex to stay in the U.S. with his coach. Meanwhile, Julie connects with Matthew Bowers, a charismatic jazz pianist, and wows everyone with her singing. Complicating matters, Matthew's ex, the famous singer Debra Andrews, is also at the hotel, and while she seeks to reconnect with him, Matthew's resentment is largely directed at her manager, Lou Valentine.
