Episode Overview

Former soldiers employed in the palace's construction feel wronged by their treatment and decide to stop working. Jacques, the gardener and confidant, advises Louis to have a war hero mediate the situation. However, Louis stubbornly rejects Philippe’s offer to help out of jealousy. The king’s oppressive behavior also prevents his former lover, Louise de la Valliere, from entering a convent, while Athenais pursues her own interests. Meanwhile, Cassel, whose home has been destroyed, moves into the palace to continue his schemes. Eventually, Louis has no choice but to involve Philippe to quell the strike, after which Philippe plans to depart from Versailles.
