S01E13 Nell Goes Home
Episode Overview
As the Chief prepares to head out for a job in New York, Samantha is upset that she can't join a male friend for fishing because he won't be there to supervise. After he departs, Nell receives distressing news from her mother: her father has suffered a heart attack. She takes Samantha back to Alabama to see her family. At home, Nell learns that her father doesn't want to see her. Meanwhile, Samantha feels remorseful for how she treated the Chief over fishing. Despite her father's wishes, Nell decides to visit him. In his room, he reverts to his old ways, still harboring resentment for her leaving at 16. Ultimately, Nell's father passes away, and at his funeral, she discovers he wanted her to deliver a eulogy he wrote. It turns out he was glad she returned after all those years. As the Chief looks on, Nell sings "Amazing Grace."
