Gimme a Break! (1981)

Episode Overview

While the chief is busy crafting a speech for an awards ceremony, Nell inadvertently sits on his cap, which infuriates him. Their argument escalates just as Samantha arrives home, upset after a girl insulted her by calling her a dumb Pollak. Ignoring their bickering, she provocatively asks Nell how she'd feel if someone called her a racial slur. This grabs the chief's attention, leading to a furious outburst from him. In response, Samantha locks herself in the bathroom, then makes a daring escape through the window, stealing her father's squad car to head to the police station. There, she encounters a drunken man named Bill, who has wandered out of his cell into the chief's office. Ultimately, the chief and Nell arrive at the station, and after some reflection, they reconcile, realizing they should have listened to Samantha instead of arguing over a trivial matter like a squished cap.
